ENG | At the end of the war, while many soldiers were returning home, a mother and father in a remote village continued to hope for their son’s return, despite not receiving any news for six long years. One day, at last, the postman brought the long-awaited news: their son was alive.
The father, Matteo—known as Mafio—was the first to run down the forest path. When they met, father and son shook hands: a silent gesture, yet full of emotion and mutual respect. The old forest, witness to their reunion, was so moved by that moment that, according to legend, it fell in love with that powerful feeling and asked the Brughiera forest to be its bride, so the memory of that love could forever walk the path between the two woods (All of it is true—except for the forest’s poetic sentiment.)
