ENG | A powerful warrior queen lived in a castle above Brembilla. She always returned victorious from battle and would hang her enemies in the square of Gualguari. One day, she heard that a king had set up camp in Lasiol, bringing with him great riches: a golden crown, gold coins, and a golden calf. The queen attacked by night, won the battle, and took the spoils, keeping the crown and the calf for herself.
But before dying, the king cursed her: the calf was sacred to him. Back at the castle, the queen was caught in a terrible storm that caused the earth to split open and swallow everything—the castle, the queen, and the golden calf.
It is said that whoever goes looking for the calf is swallowed by the same chasm. Once a year, the ghost of the king appears on horseback, desperately riding among the rocks.
