A Colere vivevano quattro sorelle bellissime e vanitose: Erica, Gardenia, Genzianella e Rosina. Dopo aver respinto molti corteggiatori, si fidanzarono con quattro pastori. Ma, durante una giornata nel bosco, incontrarono degli gnomi e, per scherzo, promisero di rivederli ogni sabato sera.
Quando gli gnomi scoprirono che le ragazze si vantavano di averli ingannati e stavano per sposarsi, si riunirono e decretarono la loro vendetta. L’ultimo sabato, attirarono le sorelle sulla montagna: con canti magici le condussero sempre più in alto, finché, terrorizzate, le ragazze furono trasformate in pietra.
Ancora oggi, sopra Colere, si vedono quattro pinnacoli di roccia: le quattro sorelle pietrificate.
ENG | In Colere lived four beautiful and vain sisters: Erica, Gardenia, Genzianella, and Rosina. After turning down many suitors, they finally became engaged to four local shepherds. One day, while gathering wood in the forest, they met a group of gnomes and, jokingly, promised to meet them every Saturday evening.
When the gnomes learned that the girls were bragging about tricking them and were preparing to marry, they held a council and vowed revenge. On the final Saturday, they lured the sisters up the mountain. With strange, enchanting songs, they led them higher and higher, until the terrified girls were turned to stone.
To this day, above the village of Colere, four rocky pinnacles can be seen: the petrified sisters, forever part of the gnomes’ mountain realm.
